new milestone: nautanki.tv crosses 10 million video views per day

Yesterday we had edge of seat excitement at around 11 30. Bets were being set up on whether nautanki.tv's 24 hour video view count would cross 10 million. It did - we ended the day with a countdown on smses between three of us - ashish, ram and me. And (three cheers) we crossed 10 million at precisely 2352 hours.

Exciting! now bets are about when we would cross 20 million. Any takers?

nautanki.tv launches Online Video Rating Points (OVRP)

With Zoom TV, Fashion TV, Bollywood Hungama and several more TV channels begining to use nautanki.tv network platform to monetize their content, there was a need for creation of a measurement method for judging the popularity of the content that comes from the channel in order to provide proper justification for ad rates. The parameter would also help the channels by giving them valuable insights into what kind of content works on the online medium.

By using an algorithm internally named as FORI (fragmented online recall index) nautanki.tv launches Online Video Rating Points (OVRP). OVRP will use a number between 1 and 10 to rate the videos which are played every week on the nautanki.tv network comprising of 3800+ widgets. FORI uses a combination of video views, clicks on the pre / post roll ads, frequency of weekly scheduling of the videos on the nautanki.tv widgets etc for evolving the OVRP. The OVRP data will be shared with the content owners every week.

Ram Seshan (CTO) of nautanki.tv has used the data that he has accumulated over the last 12 months to device the FORI algorithm which powers OVRP. He says that the OVRP data will create a paradigm shift in the ways in which ad sales looks at selling online video ad inventory. Ram adds that uniform ad rates across views on all the content across any channel on nautanki.tv will be a thing of the past. He is in the process of building an auction mechanism that will sell the prime ad spots on nautanki.tv to the highest bidding advertiser in the next few months.

The question now is whether OVRP will become the TRPs equivalent in the online video space. We sure hope it does!

With better ad rates due to better OVRPs the entire ecosystem gains - publishers make more money, the content owners make more, and we are happy. :)

Daily views on the nautanki.tv network

nautanki.tv averages around 5 million views a day. Of which close to 50% comes from niche content comprising of short films, niche shows like astrology, tarot, yoga, travel and cooking. The shows on Saptarangi our Marathi channel comprises of plays, serials and interviews with people from the Marathi film and theater circles. Vibe is for independent music.

We started to add TV channels to our network and we are seeing an interesting pattern. The views on the original content is not dipping but our viewers are switching channels to watch Zoom, Fashion TV and Bollywood Hungama after they have watched a few episodes on the other channels.

Fashion TV is clearly a winner with a steady 450000 + views a day. The real struggle is between Zoom and Bollywood Hungama. Since the genre is similar we are waiting for a couple of weeks more to find a pattern on what gets watched and what gets dropped.

The adoption of the Channels as default by the channels when they subscribe to a feed will finally decide which of the channels are popular. Finally the earning capabilities of each of the channels will decide who get better viewership.

The game is just about heating up.

Dear Publishers....

When a business grows up it faces certain adverse situations. nautanki.tv has grown rapidly in the last 16 months and has to get mainline content systems, advertisers and media to sit up and take notice. We have also had to scale up systems, support, integration and all those little things that make a machine click efficiently. We have evolved as a ecosystem and it would not have been possible without the help of the community of publishers who have stood by us, experimented, suggested changes, called us up when things have gone wrong, congratulated, celebrated, rejoiced all along.

The last lot of the payments to the publishers are currently being made, the cheques will be out of the office here on Monday 26 May 2008.

Please do continue to write in and we thank you for being a part of our family.

Zoom TV live on nautanki.tv

The third in the series of channels using nautanki.tv platform - Zoom TV is live across the 3000+ widgets. Zoom brings to the channel on nautanki.tv a variety of shows including film reviews, chat shows like Just Pooja, Pop Korn and so on.

Zoom TV plans to use the viewership inventory available on nautanki.tv to pitch to their advertisers and monetize their content.

nautanki.tv is the only platform that uses a distributed model via a widget network to get content across to where the users are. It also allows for clickable video ads ( pre and post roll) and have a dynamic ad serving engine which can target ad campaigns based on various parameters, unlike a lot of the other portals where the ads are fused to the content and are not dynamic or clickable.

Our publishers will benefit from the new channels by virtue of increased share of revenue from ad sales as it happens.

enjoy! we are not everywhere.

Zoom TV ties up with nautanki.tv

We are just quoting from the Zoom Tv press release received by us sometime ago.

" there’s a tie-up between ZoomTV.in and Nautanki.tv Networks, an online entertainment platform that provides Web page owners with a mix of branded and niche content. “Zoom’s content will increase the depth of choice available to the Nautanki.tv viewer. The interesting mix of entertainment-based content that Zoom offers will increase video consumption and bring in greater engagement to brands that want to advertise on the content "

It is official then, in the coming few days we will see Zoom Tv content go live on the nautanki.tv platform.

The reasons are simple - with over 5 million video views a day we are the largest distribution platform, nautanki.tv takes the content to where the audience is via its widget network - unlike the portals who have to drive traffic to their sites.

We are now eager to see how the advertisers react to our depth and reach.

Save the turtles campaign on nautanki.tv network

Dharam 'Turtle' Paaji, Amitabh 'Turtle' Bachchan, Thakur 'Turtle' Baldev Singh and Gabbar are now on nautanki.tv.

Greenpeace is running an animated spoof on Sholay to attract people to the plight of the Ridley Turtles in Orissa. These turtles would be affected by the port that Tata Steel plans to build in the area.

nautanki.tv has a wide audience across all age groups, our widgets are present on 3000+ blogs and small websites which cater to specific needs of people with niche interests. Our team got excited when they saw the animation and decided to ask the folks at Greenpeace if we could run the animation as a ad on our network.

The animation is currently live across the network and is getting a huge amount of viewership. Almost 300000 people had seen the animation in the last couple of days.

It is our small gesture to help the environment and save the Turtles.

Fashion TV is live on nautanki.tv

The test webcast of Fashion TV has started on nautanki.tv. We are currently showing 15 minutes of content of the latest fashion shows in India. We hope over the next few weeks to extend the channel to have atleast an hour of new fashion content daily.

Ram, Ashish, Masroor, Shalin, Madhu and Urmila - thank you for getting the channel up and running within a couple of hours of us getting access to the test content. Particularly Ram who stayed up till late to ensure we do not have any glitches.

I hope you enjoy the latest addition to the nautanki.tv channels.

Now online flash games on nautanki.tv

nautanki.tv presents online games from Games2win on its network. The users will be able to play a 2 to 3 minute intro / teaser to the huge library of games available from games2win. This is the first time that online flash games are being made available via a widget to a huge audience. History making indeed!

Over the next few days we will have the games2win online flash games available to the widget users. We are sure that the adoption rates of this form of entertainment will be very high amongst the consumers of nautanki.tv

This is also the starting point of nautanki.tv's initiative in becoming a platform. Now anyone with content - video, tv shows, music, games, pdfs, anything actually, can plug into the platform and enjoy the power of distribution. This is better than banner ads since the users get to sample the content, and since it has a way of monetization you make money (err, making money takes time so don't expect a cheque tomorrow morning)

We are currently available via a network of 2500+ widgets.

Cheers and congratulations to the team.

One evening in Versova

Oh! by the way we recently have taken up a 2200 sq ft office in Versova. It has a fantastic sea view and a kilometer of beach just across the road. A coffee shop, sizzler joint, a sea food shack and a Kerala cuisine restaurant. We plan to shift in the next one month (we are tired of playing musical chairs in the current office)

These pics were taken during the small celebration that the team put together at short notice.

The HR department has been requested to kindly ignore the kind of celebration and language used during the duration of the party. There were just two people who were not drunk - one of them was me and the other was a 16 month old baby.

for Pics click here

:)

nautanki.tv is now on facebook

nautanki.tv becomes the first Indian company to integrate an app with facebook.com. We already have 30 users in the last 30 minutes and some 400 + people have watched the content.

you can add the application to your facebook profile by clicking here

Congratulations to Ashish and Ram on this little step to creating history.

Cheers

nautanki.tv ver2.0 theta is live

Over the last month users have seen and felt the nautanki.tv system changing for the good. The look feel and backend has undergone changes to make nautanki.tv a platform. An ecosystem.

What does it mean for the nautanki.tv community?

1. Now content owners / tv channels can plug into the system and create their channels. Which means that existing content can be converted to suit the internet medium and tv channels can get their existing advertisers onto a vibrant medium. nautanki.tv thus becomes a platform for the TV channels to reach a huge audience.
2. Other platforms like social networking sites, blogging systems and such can open their links to nautanki.tv and create seamless integration which allows their users to get content which they want onto their blogs and profiles. We already have experimented with facebook.com and it has opened options for everyone to participate in the ecosystem.
2.1 We have become the first guys to integrate Google Adsense into video feeds. The results are pathetic but trust us we are learning and improving as we go along. The trickle of revenues will help the publishers too. And we are not tampering with Google TOS as a few friends feel. We have looked the the TOS carefully and are certain that Google or for that matter anyone who wants to reach our ecosystem will see what we are creating.
3. Advertisers have the benefit of economies of scale: more segment views per day means more ad inventory which means that we do not need to charge a lot to keep the ecosystem growing. We have rationalized our prices and now are comparable to what banner advertising costs in India. We have a new product offering that will be revealed soon.
4. The next three months will see significant improvement in throughputs on the earnings. The advertising community cannot sit back and refuse to acknowledge the numbers: 3 million segment views a day, 1 million unique IPs a day. 30 second video ads are far far better than banners that develop into a blind spot. We will continue to improve interfaces, players, provide the click to play / autoplay option and so on making it easier for you the publishers to take advantage of the ecosystem.
5. Our move into regional Indian languages has started with Saptarangi and we will bring more Indian languages in the coming months. Our first 30 minute fiction net show called Life and Times of Vyjanti has gone live this week. Content takes time to create and we now are ready for the drama.

We appreciate your comments and emails and brickbats, it makes us believe in what we are doing. We are creating history!

Stay Tunned!

hi folks

An update from the tech team.

As you aware we have moved the platform for nautanki.tv as of 11/9/07

the new platform takes us closer to television than before. Unlike earlier when shows were scheduled ever hour we now are like television with shows changing after each play. which means the viewers can now watch nautanki.tv like live tv. no waiting for the next content episode for an hour. shortly we are going to also get in longer programming with each episode with ads lasting 30 minutes and specials playing continuously till it ends.

we are now in a position to show you complete movies as and when the rights holders agree for screenings.

publishers, Content providers and advertiser data is being captured by the new system in improved ways.

publishers can now get separate feeds for separate pages on one site or different sites and track the usage across web properties. you can use this feature to optimize the location of the nautanki feed on the page etc etc.

a mail with the instructions for logging in into the new system will be sent later today.

we are in the process of migrating the data about your income/billing etc as i type this. this will show as a total in a single record with todays date. Due to incompatibility of the systems we cannot port data date wise but the older system will be kept available till the end of the month so that you can cross check your details (please do let us know in a mail to info[at]nautanki.tv if you see any errors.

The existing feeds will be disabled by the end of this month. so please do login and complete the process (details of which will be sent to you by mail) before that.

houston we have a problem!

If you have reached the blog you would have noticed that we have changed while you were not looking. We are currently working on getting the feeds to the 1584 sites back in action. For sometime you will see "No Episode found on this channel" message.

The upgrade / redesign will give the nautanki.tv video media platform the much needed depth and technology strength to add languages and features that have been missing so far.

Please bear with us till our team ( Ram ) fixes the bugs.

Stay Tunned!

Update1: The feeds are back to normal. We will be experimenting on a few additional features as we go along. We expect everything to be back to normal within the next 48 hours. Please send us bugs and problems that you might face at info[at]nautanki[.]tv

Update2: existing users of publisher and content sections can log in to the admin section using the email addresses and the existing password. You will get a lot of additional features as we enable them over this week. In case any of you have a problem with your passwords please send your emails to ram[at]nautanki[.]tv

the nautanki.tv showreel

I bet not too many have seen the showreel of nautanki.tv. This showreel gives you the idea of the richness of the content that our team puts together. Most days we spend so much time thinking about the network we have and the problems that publishers face and the lack of advertisers willing to experiment with a new medium that we tend to forget that we are the original created for internet content creators! (thats a huge sentence) . Have fun and keep coming back for more!
